Congratulations on your new arrival! How’s it going with having a tiny baby to look after? Have you had much time to consider how your body is following the birth?
You are monitored so closely all through pregnancy and then as soon as the baby is born, it’s all about the baby! So what about you? How are you feeling and how is your body recovering post baby? This is an opportunity to find out about your body recovering after pregnancy and to ask any questions you may have about improving how your body works again.
Pregnancy is a long time for changes to occur in the body. Muscles and soft tissues will have adapted to changes in posture and it is a lot to expect the body just to return to how it was before, don’t be too hard on yourself. It is normal for changes to have happened, some muscles may be a bit tight and you may be stiff in places and other will be quite weak which over time could lead to the development of joint pain.
There is a safe way to return to exercise following pregnancy and birth which will take in to account these changes. Get it wrong and you are more susceptible to injury and making the areas of poor activity worse leading to an overall longer recovery period.
This session considers the very new mum and advises on what you should be doing in the early post-natal period as far as muscle strength exercise, stretching, posture care and pelvic floor rehabilitation. I will advise on early exercise most beneficial to you and what to avoid and why. This will all be based on your baby’s age, previous and current level of exercise, any pelvic floor symptoms and a tummy muscle separation (diastasis) check at the time of the session.
Come along to this session with your baby but concentrate on you for an hour!
